Excellence in Boat Sail Manufacturing

The Inside Story

Making sails combines both art and science. Here are the key steps to making a quality sail.

Design the Sail

Boom and mast measurements are used to create the right sized sail for your boat. Designing for a boat to be powered up in 10 to 12 knots of  wind force is best practice. This  where the boat is sailing at its optimum heel and nearly maximum upwind speed.

Industrial Stitching

The luff curve at the front of the sail impacts how your mast will bend and needs special stitching from an industrial machine to ensure that it can withstand all wind conditions. Battens also need a high degree of attention. This is where the shape of the sail is maintained and adjustable pockets give you flexibility with different wind conditions.

Sail Finishing

Reinforced mono film tape is used to reinforce the seams. This gives sailors confidence that their sails will be able to meet challenging wind conditions especially when a high degree of force is applied to these areas.

  • Customer Testimonials

“Brad has been key in making us competitive! He has developed a fantastic, outside of the box sail wardrobe that really suits the boat. We now have some powerful sails up our sleeve like an Upwind Code Zero, Massive A2 and A3 spinnakers. We have gone from right down the back of the RPAYC offshore fleet to towards the pointy end in 2 seasons! The start of the 2017 Pittwater to Southport was a great example of some of the horsepower that Brad has given us.”
